Year: 2012

As Needs Must

And so December 2012 begins…
And November wound down in the most surreal of ways…
And there are SO many connections that cry out to me to make
But I’m positioned so, so poorly

Much has happened, and much has been said and done
That I cannot help but wonder why – or whether –
I’m to do what I’m to do

I crash against the rocks of significant disillusionment
In most all facets of my actions
That I find I’m best left to simplify, reduce, distill,
And focus on those tiny things that I can do to positively affect
Those tiny tiny components within my purview

The rest?  Meh.  I grow weary of being patronized
And/or shrugged off and/or discounted
By my own cynicism as much as by all those others
So wrapped up in their own trips that the time required
To reach out and really understand what happens
Outside of THEIR purview
Will never be taken
Which then obviously takes me to the Day One irony
Of doing precisely that which I would strongly suggest to others
As falling into the “Bad Plan” category

And it spins
And it spins
And I’ll spit this out HERE, in this so tiny little place
That so few know.  Why?
Because I cannot be glib or lithe or brief of these things
And throw it up amidst “cute kitty” and “here we are drinkin’!”
Or even add to the din of false inspiration begat by
Distant, individual clicking.

Rather than attempt to define the noun LOVE
We may do better to arrive at a functioning definition
Of the transitive verb LOVE
And, for me, I find some peace from the rightful knowledge
That TO LOVE is “to execute an agenda which, though one’s own desire,
does not take the self into context in any way, but instead moves ONLY
and EXCLUSIVELY to fulfilling the needs and wishes of the beloved.”

So TO LOVE is to help, aid, and support your beloved solely because
that is what you wish to do
without any regard or consideration for yourself.
Pointing the arrow of your agenda away from your needs, wishes, desires
And pointing it instead outward  towards your beloved.
And that’s what I try to do (re:  all the “tiny” stuff above)

I loved Mike.  He knew that.
I respected and admired Mike.  Dunno if he knew that.
But I like to think he did.
I internally questioned MANY of his choices in the time I knew him.
(“internal” because those you love will do what they will do
and it’s not your place to question it but to support them,
sometimes despite themselves)
He exasperated me at times.
His unexpected and premature death impacts so many…
And I can only be who I am and offer what I can
And be ok with whatever little things I can do to
Aid and support those I know who loved him
In whatever fashion I may by their allowance.

And I will continue to try to love rghtly
From one to two, from two to all
As below so above and beyond I imagine (MJK)

Maybe getting all this out will help.
And I must endeavor to continue to help myself
So I can point my arrow out as best I can….
……..as needs must.

Thanks for listening.

Busy guy these days…

…but we can meet this weekend (9/12-23)!!  Where?

Friday 6pm the TMI Improv Troupe take the Midtown Scholar stage
(After that I have a rehearsal for the upcoming production of “Frost/Nixon”)

Saturday night I’m going to the Gamut Theatre to see a performance of Beowulf put on by many friends and directed by David Zayas.  That’s a 7:30 curtain, but it’s the last show and it’ll be crowded.

Sunday night at 7:30 TMI takes the HMAC stage for a featured performance.  We stretch our legs a bit.

So now, Friday morning, there’s much to do on all fronts, including painting the Third St. porch of HMAC from Dutch Apple Green to Boat Blue.  And off I go!

The world begs your more ardent patience.
Thanks for listening,

Philip
